Money will be used to hire Virginia Tech's Community Design Assistance Center to develop a master plan for the lowland portion of the BRCC Arboretum which will serve as the main entrance to the arboretum and be handicap accessible. $3,781.42 
2001 Urban and Community Forestry Grant. Virginia Department of Forestry. The Urban Tree Planting Lab. J. Murray & Samantha Kislek. Over 90 trees (white oak and Yoshino cherry) will be planted in a variety of situations to test the effectiveness of adding organic matter and fertilizer at the time of planting. In addition, tree response to different planting heights and depth of mulch will be determined. Data, and images, will be collected over three years and placed on the arboretum's web page and submitted for publication. Boy Scouts performed the planting. $9,029.63
